Podlasek Genealogy

Jozef Podlasek was born on 9 March 1864 in Wierzchoslawice, Poland. He was the 8th child of Andrzej Podlasek and Katarzyna Solak.

Magdalena Cmiel (Trzmiel) was born 1 July 1877 in Moundsview Township, Ramsey County, Minnesota. She was the fifth child of Anton Cmiel and Magdalena Jeziecjczyk.

Census records indicate that Jozef came to the U.S. in about 1885. He was a witness in a wedding in St. Paul in 1886. He filed his intention for citizenship papers in Fayette County, Pennsylvania on 31 January 1889. He filed his final citizeship papers in Ramsey County Minnesota.

Jozef married Magdalena on 24 September 1898 at St. Adalbert's church in St. Paul. Family legend holds that Jozef and Magdalena met when she worked at the Cattleman's Hotel in New Brighton.

After they married, Jozef and Magdalena lived for a time with Anton and Magdalena Cmiel. They then purchased a farm in Moundsview Township (the corner of highway 10 and highway 96). Jozef worked as a butcher at one of the rendering factories in New Brighton.

Jozef died of labor pnemonia on 12 May 1922. He is buried in St. John's Cemetary, New Brighton, Minnesota.

Magdalena died of bronchial pneumonia on 12 December 1943. Four days before she died she broke her right arm when she slipped and fell on the back step. She laid there for some time until she was found. She is buried at St. John's Cemetary in New Brighton, Minnesota.
