Piotr Podlasek was born 10 June 1858 in Wierzchoslawice, Poland. He was the 6th child of of Andrzej Podlasek and Katarzyna Solak. Victoria Bogusz was born 27 May 1870 in Wierzchoslawice, Poland. She is the daughter of Franciszek Bogusz and Helena Kosiaty. The Bogusz family and the Podlasek family lived next door to each other in Wierzchoslawice (Podlaseks in house #90, Boguszes in house #89). Census records indicate that Peter came to the United States in about 1887. Peter filed his intention for citizenship papers on 19 October 1888 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. He received his final citizenship papers on 14 April 1897 in Stearns County, Minnesota. (His name is listed at Pioto Podlock.) Carl Fautsch and Frank Plasick were his sponsors. Peter and Victoria were married at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Minneapolis on 17 January 1892. Carmel Cemetary, Opole, Minnesota FRANK PODLASEK Born 20 January 1898 Married Helen Goblirsch 29 June 1929 Died 15 September 1995 Buried in Calvary Cemetary, St. Cloud, Minnesota Victoria died in childbirth in 1900. She and the baby are buried in unmarked graves in Holy Cross Cemetary, North Prairie, Minnesota. Peter died on 19 June 1910 in St. Cloud Hospital from injuries sustained in a wagon accident. Local newspapers carried the story, although each told a slightly different version and didn't get the details correct. _______________ St. Cloud Weekly Times, 22 June 1910 FATALLY HURT IN A RUNAWAY Oplole Farmer Had His Chest Crushed By Being Thrown From a Wagon "Peter Padlaski (sic), a farmer whose home is at Opole, this county, died at St. Raphael's hospital Sunday evening at about 6 o'clock from injuries received in a runaway near Rice. his chest was crushed in the fall and his abdomen was badly lacerated. In spite of his serious condition the unfortunate man lived till Sunday evening. Mr. Padlaski and Mr. and Mrs. Plaziak and infant child were driving toward Rice when suddenly the neck yoke broke and the pole fel to the ground. The horses made a jump, the buggy was overturned and the occupants were thrown to the ground. Mrs. Plaziak was also badly bruised, the wagon passing over her and she is now in bed, while Mr. Plaziak and the little child were uninjured. The deceased was 48 years of age and was a widower, his wife having died three years ago. He leaves two children, a daughter fifteen years of age and a boy nine years old. The funeral will be held at Opole tomorrow." St. Cloud Daily Times, 1 July 1910 "Opole, June 27. The remains of Peter Podlasek, which were brought here from the hospital at St. Cloud Monday afternoon, were interred Tuesday at Oplole after services being held at the Catholic Church at 9 0'clock, Rev. Suszinski officiating. A large number of friends attended the funeral. The deceased leaves several children and one brother who came up from Minneapolis to attend the funeral." _______________ His death certificate states that he "received a fall fracturing 7 ribs on left side and 5 on right. Injury chest and abdomen. Died 12 hours after injury." After the accident, Peter wrote his will. Andrew Dobos was named executor.. Andrew and his wife, Mary Dobos, were given custody of Julia and Frank. Peter is buried in an unmarked grave in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetary, Opole, Minnesota.
